About

A maker who also runs a painting company.

The story

I started as a UI designer and spent years shipping responsive websites and native Windows apps. Design is still where every project starts for me.

Today I own Wild Fox — an interior painting company in the Denver south metro — and the brands that grew out of it: Coatings, Drywall, Delivery and Studios. Every one of them runs on software I designed and wrote, from the public sites to the estimating tools the crew uses on their phones.

On the side I keep building products: collaboration tools, marketplaces, communities and small SaaS apps. Some are live, some are in progress, and all of them are listed here.

I'm a father and a husband, and I like talking with other entrepreneurs about what's working and what isn't. If that's you, say hi.

Timeline

  1. Early days

    UI designer

Responsive websites, product concepts and case studies for agencies and clients in the Twin Cities.

  2. Krazier

    Design + Windows apps

My first brand. Fluent design for native Windows 10 apps, and the first wave of my own products: Retrospect, Sunshine Social, Open Makers and more.

  3. Wild Fox

    Painting company

Moved to Colorado and started Wild Fox Painting. A real business with crews, customers and paint, and the proving ground for everything I build.

  4. Now

    Wild Fox family + products

Coatings, Drywall, Delivery and Studios grew out of Painting. All of it runs on software I write, and I still ship products of my own on the side.

How I work

01

Build for a real business first

Every tool I make gets used by my own companies first. If it doesn't work for them, it doesn't ship.

02

Design and code are one job

I don't hand off. The person who draws the screen is the person who builds it, so the details survive.

03

Own the whole stack

.NET, SQL, Azure, the domain, the DNS, the email. Fewer moving parts and nobody else to wait on.

04

Start with a real problem

Every product here began as something I needed myself. That's the only kind of idea I trust enough to build.

Now

This month.

  1. Running Wild Fox Painting day to day
  2. Building ProApp, the estimating and CRM tool for trades
  3. Building Playbook and DocDrop, two self-serve SaaS products
  4. Bootstrapping. No outside money.
